Robert Burns – Scottish Spirit! Indian Soul?

Robert Burns – born in 1759 is Scotland’s most famous Bard, writer of over 500 songs and passed in 1796. Born in humble beginnings to a family of farmers and started his life as a farmer. His yearning for more drove him to write and once his poems were published in 1786, he found instant fame and fortune and moved to Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital living a far more charming and illustrious lifestyle.
He was said to burn the candle hard on both ends, enjoying the Edinburgh lifestyle including every comfort it could bring including many a whisky and GIN tipple with cocktails a plenty!
He never sat foot in India though, he has inspired many institutions and one well-known scholar Rabindranath Tagore “The Bard of Bengal” translated many of his works, including Rabbies most revered and now worldwide song sung around the world at New Year – Auld Lang Sang.
Robert Burns philosophy of human rights, empowerment and equality reached India and supported their cultural development, leaving a lasting legacy.
