Looking for some pairing ideas?
Perfect for pairing with a cheese board, afternoon tea sandwiches, scones, and even a well-seasoned steak, Rutland Square Chai Spiced Gin is an experience in every glass, a spirit that tells a story—one that began in Assam, journeyed through Edinburgh, and now finds its way to connoisseurs across the world.
How was Rutland Square Gin Created?
We sourced and sampled over 100 different tea variants, searching for the one that would bring depth, complexity, and character to our spirit. The answer? Oolong—one of the most exquisite and expensive teas money can buy. But there was a challenge: Oolong is not traditionally grown in Dibrugarh, Assam, a region famed for its robust black teas.
Determined to craft something truly unique, we started procuring Oolong from select vendors in Assam. However, to ensure the highest quality and sustainability, we took the bold step of growing our own Oolong tea—a first-of-its-kind effort in the region. Over time, we cultivated and perfected the tea, working closely with expert growers to develop a flavour profile that would complement the botanical alchemy of gin.
By 2020, after years of refinement, our Chai Spiced Gin was perfected, and Rutland Square Gin was born. A spirit that embodies craftsmanship, heritage, and a truly one-of-a-kind flavour journey.
Does Rutland Square Gin pair well with ginger ale?
Absolutely! When paired with Ginger Ale, the gin unfolds into a rich, earthy experience, with zesty citrus and juniper layering beautifully.
Where did gin originate?
The origins of gin can be traced back to the Middle Ages, with records describing a drink called "Jenever", a Dutch spirit made with juniper, a botanical found in the Northern Hemisphere. And by today's regulations, the taste of juniper must be the signature note in any gin.
Why are we called Rutland Square Spirits?
The name 'Rutland Square Gin' is deeply symbolic, bridging the heritage of Scotland and India. To source the unique botanicals, particularly the signature Oolong White Tea, the founder embarked on a journey to India. This journey began with a practical step: obtaining a visa from the Indian Embassy located in Edinburgh's Rutland Square. Thus, 'Rutland Square' represents not only the physical location of this crucial step but also serves as a tangible link between the Scottish base of the distillery and the Indian origins of its key ingredient. The name embodies the spirit of cultural exchange and the fusion of traditions that defines Rutland Square Gin. The use of the lion symbol, representing both Scottish and Indian heritage, further shows this respect for cultural origins.
What distilling method does Rutland Square Gin use?
London Dry, a traditional gin-making technique.
